Biography

Rebecca Fox has been creating welded steel sculpture for over a decade. Born in 1976 in Los Angeles, California, Rebecca moved to San Francisco in 1996 where she studied sculpture at San Francisco City College’s Fort Mason Art Campus. She learned to weld and immediately found her true passion in life: creating art using metal as her medium.

To expand her technical knowledge, Rebecca worked for several years as a welder in a custom metal fabrication shop in Oakland, California. Rebecca learned many valuable metal-working skills, which she applies to her art. At the same time, she became the Teacher’s Assistant and Laboratory Technician for the Sculpture Department at City College. She left City College in 2001 to move into her own studio at Hunters Point Shipyard.

Rebecca currently lives and works in San Francisco, California. In 2007 she moved her studio to Islais Creek Studios. She has exhibited her work extensively throughout the Bay Area, including the SFMOMA Artists Gallery. Rebecca's work was selected for ArtSpan's prestigious biennial juried exhibition Selections 2010. Rebecca was selected for the 2009 public art project Hearts in San Francisco and her heart was on public display in 2010 for six months in Union Square in San Francisco. For six months in 2009 her heart was also on public display in San Francisco’s Mission Creek Park. In 2009 her work was featured on the national television show Superscapes on HGTV (Home and Garden Television). Rebecca’s work has produced an extensive following of collectors, and her work is included in over 100 private collections throughout the United States.
